Tom Skillings established Skillings Connolly with the idea of providing broad-based engineering services in 1983. Early on, he realized that engineering was more than just transportation or water systems; it is about how those pieces work together. As the sole employee of the firm, Tom sought to offer his clients a holistic approach to engineering. Initially, Skillings Connolly simply provided engineering services, and developed a reputation as a leader in the transportation field. That reputation has changed over the years and now includes recognition in several areas including water reclamation and stormwater facility design. In addition, we now offer a full range of environmental, surveying and real estate services.
The other name on the door belongs to Bob Connolly, who heads up our Private Development Division. This Division has been successfully managed to now account for half of Skillings Connolly's business. The Private Development Division helps citizens and real estate developers realize their property development goals whether on a single property or a whole subdivision by thoughtfully considering the most practical and effective solutions to engineering problems.
Skillings Connolly has always approached design with a thought toward the impacts development has on the natural environment. We incorporate sustainable solutions into our designs whenever possible. Installing porous paving materials, retaining trees on a project site, planting native species in landscaping, and using solar panels to power an irrigation system are all sustainable solutions used in recent designs.
The company's diverse business model has led to success and expansion. Skillings Connolly now has branch offices in Seattle (2007) and Vancouver (2006), Washington, Boise, Idaho (2001) and Missoula, Montana (1998). Tom Skillings and Bob Connolly continue to look for challenging opportunities and to encourage their employees to look for creative, sustainable solutions that mesh all aspects of a project together seamlessly.
